New Camp Cabins Letter

Let me state again what the situation at the camp was/is.

A few years ago they had two cabins that were in very sad shape (one boy’s and one girl’s). The worst part was the bathroom facilities. They were almost to the point of being unusable.  They certainly were not handicap usable. Probus National, through individual club donations, paid for the ripping out of the old facilities and building a new bathroom that joins the two cabins and greatly expanded the size of the facility. They also replaced the old showers and toilets with state of the art showers and toilets and lift bars etc. Now you can wheel your wheelchair right into the shower and clean yourself – and your wheelchair – or wheel yourself right up to the toilet and lift yourself onto the seat etc.

Well, the problem now is that the cabins themselves are ready to be torn down. The campers have to sleep in bunk beds because there is no room for everyone to have a bed on the floor.  The ceilings are two low to be able to put in attic type fans, thus it is extremely hot. The campers are elderly in these bunks and the ones that must be assigned to the upper bunks have to get up in the middle of the night (just like the rest of us who reach our 60s and 70s).  Thus they have to call a counselor to assist them getting up and down the ladders on the bunk beds.

What the camp wants to do is to tear down the cabins and leave the bathroom part alone. Then rebuild new cabins that have taller ceilings and larger floor space so that everyone can have a bed that is on the floor. The new cabins will be larger with taller ceilings so that attic fans can be installed.
